After doing some odd jobs which included dropping in 16 large flagstones as temporary ballast to get some fanhold, I eventually set off from Sale at 1pm. I made good time through Dunahm, Lymm and Grappenhall, meeting no other boats until Stockton Heath.
I carried on towards Preston Brook tunnel where I arrived at 7pm. I used the time waiting for the next passage at 7.30 to check the headlight, get my windlass to hand and make a fresh cup of tea.
After working through Dutton Stop Lock and passing Dutton Dry Dock, I moored for the night just before the start of the 'real' turns on the northern Trent & Mersey.
A start of 8am saw me passing through Acton Bridge and through Saltesford and Barnton tunnels. I eventually arrived in Middlewich at 2.30pm and moored just below Big Lock.
