After arriving at Ellesmere Port on Wednesday afternoon via the River Weaver and Manchester Ship Canal, I tied alongside Empress for the long weekend. Wednesday afternoon and Thursday was relatively quiet but were spent helping move some of the museum boats around to create some space for visiting boats.
On Saturday, members of the YWBS which included myself, Dan, Joe, Sarah and Rebekah met up. We firstly ran Ariel up Whitby locks and onto the winding hole before returning down the locks and tying up in the bottom basin. We then took Shad along with some members of The Waterways Action Squad from the top basin, down Whitby Locks where we winded Shad and headed back up the locks.
After Sunday a lot of the visiting boats started to depart and head back home, leaving only a collection which slowly reduced and by Monday night only a handfull of boats which were heading along the Ship Canal were left.
The visiting boats started to turn up over the course of the afternoon. I made a mental note of the boats attending and these were;
Acacia, Alton, Ariel, Buckden, Dory, Empress, Gainsborough, Kenilworth, Kennet, Lacerta, Lamprey, Lead Us, Lindsay, Malvern, Parfield, Petrel, Radiant, Regulus, Sandbach, Saturn, Severn, Spey and Victory.
